Chennai's East Coast Road is set to gain a marquee address in hospitality. Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced that its subsidiary agreements now cover a new beachfront property with Brigade Hotel Ventures Limited (BHVL), part of the Brigade Group. Brigade Hotel Ventures Limited signed a management agreement with Hyatt for Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR, a premier beachfront hotel on the scenic southeastern coast of India, with plans to open in 2029.
The upcoming property will sit on an expansive beachfront site along one of South India's most scenic coastal stretches. With plans to open in 2029, Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR will debut on an expansive beachfront site, offering an exclusive and immersive stay with approx. 200 guest rooms, five distinct dining venues including a signature restaurant, two specialty restaurants, a pool bar, a lobby lounge, wellness facilities, and multiple sophisticated event spaces. The hotel facilities will cater to premium leisure and business travellers and will be ideal for wedding buy outs, staycations and MICE.
Announcing the tie-up, Nirupa Shankar, Managing Director of Brigade Hotel Ventures Limited, said, "We are happy to announce our plans for Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR, a world-class hotel that will redefine the hospitality landscape in Chennai." She added that this marks the company's first collaboration with the Hyatt brand, noting, "This will be our first hotel with Hyatt, and we are confident in Hyatt's global expertise in managing large-format MICE hotels. Strategically located on East Coast Road, the property is poised to become a premier destination, appealing to business travellers, wedding guests, and leisure seekers alike."
From Hyatt's side, Dhruva Rathore, Vice President of Development, India and Southwest Asia, framed the deal as part of a broader push into South India, stating that Chennai and Bengaluru are dynamic markets with strong demand for hospitality, and these landmark developments align with Hyatt's strategic vision of expanding its brand presence in key leisure and business destinations across India.
The ECR project is not an isolated bet. It forms part of a wider Rs 1,100 crore hospitality push by BHVL in Chennai, which also includes a JW Marriott on OMR and a Courtyard by Marriott at Chennai World Trade Centre, together expected to add close to 600 rooms to the city's hospitality inventory over the coming years. This Chennai investment sits within BHVL's larger Rs 3,600-crore national expansion plan and follows a memorandum of understanding the company signed with the Tamil Nadu government at the Tamil Nadu Global Tourism Summit 2026, an agreement intended to bolster the state's tourism infrastructure and to create high-value employment for over 1,000 people.
Brigade is no stranger to Chennai's hospitality scene. The company has operated the Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway since April 2017 through its subsidiary SRP Hotel Ventures Limited with 202 keys, and BHVL is currently the second largest owner of chain-affiliated hotels and rooms in South India as of 2025. Adding a Grand Hyatt to this portfolio signals confidence in ECR's long-term pull for both tourism and large-format events.
