Tamil Nadu's longest flyover now connects the city, easing daily commutes along Avinashi Road.
Discover MoreCoimbatore's daily commute just changed for good. On October 9, 2025, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the much-awaited 10.1-kilometre Avinashi Road Elevated Corridor, now officially the longest flyover in the state and the third-largest in India. Built between Uppilipalayam and Goldwins, the corridor has been named the GD Naidu Elevated Expressway, honouring the celebrated industrialist and inventor known as the 'Edison of India'.
For residents and homebuyers along this stretch, the numbers tell a compelling story. The route, notorious for taking at least 45 minutes to cover a mere 10 km during peak hours, can now be traversed in under 10 minutes thanks to the new elevated corridor. The corridor's six-lane and four-lane sections together form a 10-lane high-level flyover spanning major junctions including Airport, Codissia, Hope College, Nava India, Lakshmi Mills, and Anna Statue, with dedicated boarding and alighting platforms for local access at four key points.
Work on the project began back in 2020 to address severe traffic bottlenecks along Avinashi Road, a key route connecting the city to Coimbatore International Airport. The state government completed the remaining construction after taking charge, spending a total outlay that included land acquisition of around 4.9 acres. Beyond just easing congestion, the corridor comes with thoughtful sustainability touches: it is Tamil Nadu's first flyover equipped with a full-fledged rainwater harvesting system along its entire length, alongside reinforced safety barriers and modern lighting for enhanced visibility and security.
For Coimbatore's residential market, this is more than an infrastructure milestone. Avinashi Road has long been the city's commercial and residential spine, home to IT parks, hospitals, malls, and some of the most sought-after housing pockets in the region. With travel time to the airport and central business districts cut dramatically, homes along this corridor are set to benefit from improved everyday convenience, something that matters deeply to families weighing where to put down roots.
Brigade Group has an established presence right along this transformed stretch with Brigade Avinashi Road, a residential development offering 2, 3, and 4 BHK apartments designed for modern family living. The project sits amid landscaped greenery and is planned with an emphasis on eco-friendly practices, including rainwater harvesting and energy-saving measures, echoing the sustainability focus of the new corridor itself. Residents here can expect the daily grind of ferrying children to school, commuting to work, or heading to the airport for a business trip to feel noticeably lighter.
Urban planners and real estate observers often point out that improved road infrastructure tends to have a compounding effect on property values and rental demand over time, particularly along arterial roads that connect residential neighbourhoods to employment hubs and airports. Avinashi Road's elevated corridor fits this pattern well, given it bypasses about a dozen traffic intersections that once slowed commuters to a crawl.
For homebuyers currently evaluating Coimbatore as a destination, whether relocating for work in the city's growing IT and industrial sectors or simply seeking a well-connected home base, the timing of this corridor's opening adds a fresh layer of appeal to properties along Avinashi Road. Reduced commute stress, better connectivity to the airport, and a visibly upgraded stretch of the city all point toward a locality that is only getting more convenient to live in.
As Coimbatore continues to grow as an industrial and IT hub, projects like Brigade Avinashi Road stand to gain from precisely this kind of civic investment, offering residents a home base that keeps pace with the city's evolving infrastructure.
